2. Scope of These Terms

These Terms apply to:

  • In-store repairs

  • Mail-in repairs

  • Diagnostic services

  • Logic-board and microsoldering work

  • Data-recovery services

  • Phone repairs

  • Tablet repairs

  • Laptop and computer repairs

  • MacBook repairs

  • Game-console repairs

  • Controller repairs

  • Other electronic-device repairs

  • Products purchased in store

  • Products purchased online

  • Accessories

  • Refurbished and pre-owned devices

  • Orders placed through our websites

  • Quotes and bookings made through our websites

Additional terms may be shown on a quotation, repair booking, invoice, product listing or service page.

If an individually agreed term conflicts with these general Terms, the individually agreed term will normally take priority for that particular transaction.

Nothing in these Terms removes or restricts any rights you have under UK consumer law.

3. Repair Agreement

When you ask Tech Lab to inspect, diagnose or repair a device, you authorise us to carry out the work you have approved.

A repair contract may be created when you:

  • Sign or accept a repair booking

  • Submit a repair through our website

  • Send us a device following a mail-in booking

  • Approve a quotation

  • Authorise work by email, telephone or message

  • Pay an agreed diagnostic or repair fee

  • Otherwise clearly instruct us to proceed

We will provide our services with reasonable care and skill.

4. Diagnostics

Some faults cannot be accurately identified without inspection or diagnostic work.

Where a diagnostic fee applies, we will tell you the applicable charge before the diagnostic service begins or make the charge clearly available during booking.

Diagnostic work may include:

  • Visual inspection

  • Device disassembly

  • Electrical testing

  • Software testing

  • Component testing

  • Logic-board inspection

  • Microscope inspection

  • Power testing

  • Charging analysis

  • Fault tracing

  • Testing with known-good components

A diagnostic fee pays for diagnostic work carried out and does not guarantee that the device can be repaired.

Where we operate a policy under which a diagnostic fee is credited towards an approved repair, this will be shown on your quote, booking or repair record.

Once diagnostic work has started, a diagnostic charge may remain payable for work already performed even if:

  • The device is beyond economical repair

  • The device is not repairable

  • Replacement parts are unavailable

  • You decide not to proceed with the quoted repair

This is subject to your statutory rights.

5. Repair Quotes and Authorisation

Where possible, we will provide an estimated repair price before carrying out chargeable repair work.

A quotation may be based on the fault that is visible or identifiable at that stage.

Electronic devices can have multiple faults, and some defects only become apparent after:

  • Disassembly

  • Initial repair

  • Removal of damaged components

  • Logic-board testing

  • Liquid-damage treatment

  • Replacement of another faulty component

If additional work or additional cost becomes necessary, we will seek your approval before carrying out materially additional chargeable work.

You are not required to accept a revised quotation.

If you decline a revised quotation, charges already agreed for diagnostics, inspection, attempted repair, parts specially authorised or other completed services may still be payable where applicable.

6. Repair Attempts and Board-Level Repairs

Certain repairs are inherently attempt-based.

This particularly applies to:

  • Logic-board repairs

  • Microsoldering

  • Trace repair

  • Pad reconstruction

  • Connector reconstruction

  • Corrosion damage

  • Liquid damage

  • Short-circuit diagnosis

  • No-power faults

  • Data-recovery work

  • Devices previously repaired or modified

An attempt-based repair means that we will use reasonable care and skill to attempt the repair, but a successful outcome cannot be guaranteed.

Where an attempt or diagnostic fee applies even if the repair is unsuccessful, we will make this clear before work begins.

7. Replacement Parts

Depending on the repair and what has been agreed with you, replacement components may include:

  • Genuine manufacturer parts

  • Original/OEM parts

  • Original refurbished parts

  • High-quality compatible parts

  • Reclaimed original parts

Where the type of part is material to your purchasing decision, we will describe the option being supplied.

The availability of parts can affect repair times.

Where a specifically ordered part is no longer available, we will contact you before substituting it with a materially different alternative.

8. Removed Parts

Parts removed during repair may be retained for:

  • Recycling

  • Responsible disposal

  • Supplier returns

  • Manufacturer exchange programmes

  • Core-exchange programmes

If you want a replaced component returned to you, please ask before the repair begins.

We may be unable to return components where they must be returned to a supplier or manufacturer as part of the replacement-part arrangement.

9. Repair Times

Any completion time we give is an estimate unless we expressly agree that a specific deadline is binding.

Repair times can be affected by:

  • Parts availability

  • Supplier delays

  • Diagnostic complexity

  • Additional faults

  • Liquid damage

  • Previous repair attempts

  • Logic-board faults

  • Courier delays

  • Manufacturer or supplier availability

  • Current workload

We will make reasonable efforts to complete your repair within the estimated timeframe and will inform you where there is a material delay.

Where no completion date has been expressly agreed, we will provide the service within a reasonable time.

10. Device Passcodes and Testing

We may need access to your device to:

  • Confirm the reported fault

  • Diagnose the device

  • Test functionality

  • Test a completed repair

  • Perform an authorised data-recovery service

We may therefore ask you for a:

  • PIN

  • Passcode

  • Password

  • Login credential required for device testing

Providing a passcode is optional unless access is necessary to perform the requested service.

If you choose not to provide one, we may be unable to fully test the device.

This can mean that final testing must be carried out with you when the device is collected.

Passcodes supplied to us will only be used where reasonably necessary for the requested service and will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

11. Customer Data and Backups

Electronic-device repair involves some risk to information stored on the device.

You should make a current backup of important information before giving a device to us whenever it is reasonably possible to do so.

Examples include:

  • Photographs

  • Documents

  • Contacts

  • Messages

  • Videos

  • Application data

  • Business information

  • Authentication information

Some repairs may require:

  • A factory reset

  • Operating-system installation

  • Storage replacement

  • Firmware restoration

  • Device reconfiguration

We will not intentionally erase a device without a technical reason or your authorisation where authorisation can reasonably be obtained.

We are not responsible for data that was already lost, corrupted, inaccessible or damaged before the device came into our possession.

Nothing in this section limits our responsibility where loss is caused by our failure to exercise the level of care required by law.

12. Data Recovery

Data recovery is an attempt-based service.

No data-recovery provider can guarantee that particular files will be recoverable from every damaged or failed device.

Where you authorise data-recovery work, you authorise us to access files and storage only to the extent reasonably necessary to:

  • Diagnose the storage device

  • Recover information

  • Verify recovered information

  • Transfer recovered information to you

Recovered information will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

Any applicable diagnostic, attempt or data-recovery fee will be explained before chargeable work begins.

13. Pre-Existing Damage

We record visible device condition where reasonably practicable.

You should tell us about:

  • Previous repairs

  • Previous liquid exposure

  • Physical damage

  • Intermittent faults

  • Missing screws or components

  • Previous logic-board work

  • Non-original parts

  • Software modifications

  • Any other relevant history

Opening or working on a device that has been previously damaged or improperly repaired can reveal or progress existing problems.

We are not responsible for defects caused by pre-existing damage or previous third-party work.

We remain responsible for damage caused by a failure on our part to exercise reasonable care and skill.

14. Liquid-Damaged Devices

Liquid damage can continue to develop after the original exposure.

Corrosion may affect components that appeared to function normally during the initial repair.

For this reason:

  • A liquid-damage repair may not restore every function.

  • Further faults may appear later.

  • Components unaffected during the initial repair may subsequently fail.

  • Repair may not be economically viable.

  • Successful repair cannot guarantee the long-term reliability of the entire device.

Any warranty we provide following liquid-damage work applies only to the particular repair or components expressly covered by that warranty.

Your statutory rights are not affected.

15. Water Resistance

Opening a device can affect seals, adhesives and water resistance.

Even where replacement seals are installed, we do not guarantee that a repaired device will retain its original manufacturer water-resistance or waterproof rating unless we expressly state otherwise.

We recommend treating a repaired device as not waterproof.

16. Manufacturer Warranty

Repair by Tech Lab may affect or invalidate a manufacturer’s warranty, insurance policy or manufacturer service programme.

You should check your manufacturer’s or insurer’s terms before authorising a third-party repair if maintaining that coverage is important to you.

17. Tech Lab Repair Warranty

Unless a different warranty period is stated on your quotation, invoice, receipt or repair record:

  • Standard qualifying repairs and replacement parts are covered by a 90-day Tech Lab repair warranty.

  • Qualifying logic-board, microsoldering and board-level repairs are covered by a 30-day Tech Lab repair warranty.

The warranty starts from the date the repair is completed.

The warranty covers:

  • The repair we carried out

  • The replacement component supplied by us

  • A recurrence of the same fault where that recurrence results from the repair or covered component

The warranty does not automatically cover:

  • A different or unrelated fault

  • Accidental damage

  • Impact damage

  • Cracked screens or housings occurring after repair

  • New liquid exposure

  • Further corrosion unrelated to our workmanship

  • Misuse

  • Damage caused by accessories or chargers

  • Malware or software installed after repair

  • Damage caused by subsequent third-party repair or modification

  • Faults caused by components that were not part of our repair

If another repairer subsequently works on the same area of the device, we may need to inspect the device before determining whether our warranty still applies.

A Tech Lab warranty is in addition to your statutory rights and does not replace or restrict those rights.

18. Warranty Assessment

If you believe a fault is covered by our repair warranty, contact us and give us a reasonable opportunity to inspect the device.

If the problem is covered, we will take appropriate steps to resolve it.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include:

  • Repeat repair

  • Replacement of the relevant part

  • Another appropriate remedy

Where the problem is unrelated to our original work, we may provide a separate quotation.

19. Collection of Repaired Devices

We will contact you using the details supplied to us when your device is ready for collection.

Please ensure that your contact details remain current.

Payment may be required before the device is released.

Where permitted by law, we may retain possession of a device until charges properly due under the repair agreement have been paid.

20. Uncollected Devices

Customers are responsible for collecting devices promptly after being notified that they are ready.

If a device remains uncollected, we may send further reminders.

We may also move long-term uncollected devices to secure storage where reasonably necessary.

If a device remains uncollected for a prolonged period, we may issue a formal notice requiring you to collect it and stating:

  • The device concerned

  • Where it is held

  • The amount owed, if any

  • The deadline for collection

  • What may happen if it remains uncollected

If you still fail to collect the device following the required notice, we may exercise rights available to us under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977, including selling or disposing of the device where the legal requirements for doing so have been satisfied.

An uncollected device does not automatically become the property of Tech Lab simply because a fixed number of days has passed.

Where a device is sold under the applicable legal process, sale proceeds will be dealt with as required by law after deducting amounts properly due and permitted costs.

Where reasonably necessary, customer data on a device being lawfully disposed of will be erased or the storage media securely destroyed where practicable.

We may charge a reasonable storage fee only where the fee and when it begins to apply have been clearly communicated to you.

21. Payment

Payment methods available may include:

  • Card

  • Cash

  • Online payment

  • Payment link

  • Other methods offered by Tech Lab

The amount payable will be the amount agreed for the relevant service or product, together with any additional amount subsequently authorised by you.

Repair services must normally be paid for before a device is released or dispatched.

Diagnostic or attempt fees may be payable independently of a successful repair where this was clearly stated before the work began.

22. Refunds for Repair Services

A diagnostic or repair fee will not automatically be refundable simply because:

  • A device develops an unrelated fault

  • You change your mind after authorised work has been completed

  • An attempt-based repair proves unsuccessful where the applicable fee was clearly agreed

  • The device had an undisclosed pre-existing problem

However, nothing in these Terms removes your statutory remedies where our service has not been performed with reasonable care and skill or otherwise does not comply with applicable consumer law.

Where required by law, remedies may include repeat performance or an appropriate price reduction or refund.

23. Mail-In Repairs

When using our mail-in repair service, you are responsible for packaging your device safely and appropriately.

You should:

  • Use suitable protective packaging

  • Avoid loose movement inside the parcel

  • Remove unnecessary accessories unless required for diagnosis

  • Use the shipping method or label agreed with us

  • Retain proof of postage where appropriate

Where you arrange your own courier, your device remains subject to the terms of the courier service you select until it has been delivered to us.

Where Tech Lab arranges a courier or prepaid shipping service, the applicable shipping arrangements and any stated insurance or compensation limits will be communicated as part of the service.

We will not rely on these Terms to exclude responsibility where the law makes us responsible for loss or damage.

24. Return Shipping

Where a device is returned by post or courier:

  • We will use the address supplied or confirmed by you.

  • You are responsible for ensuring the address is accurate.

  • Tracking information may be provided where available.

  • Delivery times are normally estimates unless otherwise stated.

If a parcel is lost or damaged, responsibility will depend on the circumstances, including who arranged the carriage and applicable law.

We will reasonably assist with an appropriate courier claim where necessary.

25. Products Sold by Tech Lab

Goods we sell must comply with your statutory rights.

They must, where applicable, be:

  • As described

  • Of satisfactory quality

  • Fit for their intended purpose

Product descriptions may identify products as:

  • New

  • Open-box

  • Refurbished

  • Pre-owned

  • Graded

Cosmetic wear on a refurbished or pre-owned device is not considered a fault where it is consistent with the condition or grade clearly described before purchase.

26. Refurbished and Pre-Owned Devices

A refurbished or pre-owned device may show signs of previous use.

The product description or in-store information may state:

  • Cosmetic grade

  • Storage capacity

  • Hardware specification

  • Battery information

  • Accessories supplied

  • Known cosmetic marks

Normal cosmetic characteristics that were clearly disclosed as part of the product’s condition do not make the product faulty.

This does not affect your statutory rights regarding undisclosed faults, satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose or goods not matching their description.

27. Online and Distance Purchases — Goods

If you are a consumer and purchase goods online, by telephone or through another qualifying distance contract, you will normally have a legal right to cancel the purchase.

Unless an exception applies, you may notify us that you wish to cancel within 14 days after the day you receive the goods.

After notifying us, you normally have a further 14 days to return the goods.

You do not need to provide a reason.

You may inspect goods to the extent reasonably necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning, in a similar way to how you could inspect them in a shop.

We may make a lawful deduction for diminished value where goods have been handled beyond what is reasonably necessary.

Where applicable, we will refund the basic outbound delivery charge.

If you selected a more expensive delivery method, we do not have to refund the amount above the cost of our basic delivery option.

Unless goods are faulty or we have agreed otherwise, you may be responsible for the cost of returning change-of-mind goods where this was communicated before purchase.

Certain statutory exceptions to cancellation rights may apply.

28. In-Store Change-of-Mind Returns

There is no general statutory right to return non-faulty goods bought in person simply because you have changed your mind.

Where Tech Lab offers an additional goodwill return policy for an in-store purchase, the applicable conditions will be displayed or communicated at the time of purchase.

Your statutory rights for faulty goods remain unaffected.

29. Faulty Goods

Nothing in our returns policy affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Where goods are faulty, not as described or not fit for purpose, you may be entitled to statutory remedies.

Depending on the circumstances and timing, these can include:

  • Rejection and refund

  • Repair

  • Replacement

  • Price reduction

  • Final right to reject

A manufacturer’s warranty or Tech Lab warranty is additional to these rights.

Expiry of a voluntary warranty does not automatically remove rights you may have under consumer law.

30. Distance Repair and Service Cancellation Rights

Where you enter into a qualifying repair or service contract with us online, by telephone or by another distance method, you will normally have a 14-day cancellation period starting the day after the contract is entered into, unless an exception applies.

You may ask us to begin the repair, diagnostic or other service during this cancellation period.

If you expressly ask us to begin during the cancellation period and later cancel before the service has been fully completed, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for work performed up to the point of cancellation.

If:

  1. You expressly request that we begin the service during the cancellation period;

  2. The service is fully completed; and

  3. You acknowledge that completion of the service means losing your statutory cancellation right;

your right to cancel that completed service may end.

This does not remove your rights if the service itself is faulty or has not been carried out with reasonable care and skill.

31. Pricing

Prices will be displayed, quoted or otherwise communicated before you commit to the relevant purchase or service.

Where a repair cannot reasonably be priced until diagnosis has taken place, we will explain this.

Any additional optional charge will require your agreement before it is added.

Obvious pricing errors do not require us to supply a product or service at an obviously incorrect price where the error should reasonably have been apparent.

If this occurs, we will contact you and give you the option of proceeding at the correct price or cancelling for a refund of amounts paid for the affected item or service.

32. Ownership and Risk in Goods We Sell

Ownership and risk in products purchased from us will pass as provided by applicable law and the terms of the relevant transaction.

Nothing in this section changes statutory consumer protections concerning delivery or lost goods.

33. Our Responsibility

We are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable consequence of:

  • Our breach of these Terms; or

  • Our failure to exercise reasonable care and skill

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

In particular, nothing excludes or restricts liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by negligence

  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation

  • Your statutory consumer rights

  • Other liability that cannot legally be excluded

We are not responsible for losses resulting solely from:

  • Pre-existing damage

  • Faults you did not disclose where that non-disclosure materially affected the work

  • Normal failure of unrelated components

  • Customer misuse

  • Subsequent accidental damage

  • Subsequent liquid exposure

  • Unauthorised third-party modification

  • Events outside our reasonable control

Any limitation in these Terms applies only to the extent permitted by law.

34. Business Customers

These Terms are primarily written for consumers.

If you purchase our products or services wholly or mainly for business purposes, certain consumer protections may not apply.

Separate business terms may be agreed with corporate, trade or wholesale customers.

Where separate business terms have been expressly agreed, those terms will take priority for the relevant business transaction.

35. Privacy and Personal Information

We process personal information in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

Our Privacy Notice explains:

  • What information we collect

  • Why we use it

  • Our lawful bases

  • Device-data handling

  • Data recovery

  • Cookies

  • Marketing

  • Information sharing

  • Retention

  • Your data-protection rights

The Privacy Notice applies to both:

  • techfixlab.co.uk

  • techlabuk.com

Acceptance of these Terms does not by itself constitute consent to receive optional direct marketing.

For privacy enquiries or to exercise your data-protection rights, contact:

info@techfixlab.co.uk

36. Website Use

You may use our websites for lawful personal or business purposes.

You must not:

  • Attempt unauthorised access to our systems

  • Interfere with website security

  • Introduce malicious software

  • Scrape or extract website content unlawfully

  • Fraudulently place orders

  • Impersonate another person

  • Use our website for unlawful purposes

We may suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect our website, customers or systems.

37. Website Information

We make reasonable efforts to keep information on our websites accurate.

Product availability, repair prices, specifications and other information may change.

A website description does not override specific information expressly agreed with you during a transaction.

Nothing in this section permits us to misdescribe a product or service or removes your statutory rights.

38. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, website content owned by Tech Fix Lab Limited, including:

  • Text

  • Graphics

  • Branding

  • Logos

  • Original photography

  • Website design elements

  • Original written material

is protected by applicable intellectual-property law.

You may view and print reasonable portions for personal and non-commercial use.

Third-party trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

39. Links to Other Websites

Our websites may contain links to third-party websites.

A link does not necessarily mean that Tech Lab endorses the third party.

We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their content or independent terms and privacy practices.

40. Complaints

If you are unhappy with a product or service, please contact us so we can investigate.

We will aim to resolve complaints fairly and promptly.

Data-protection complaints will also be handled in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

41. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time.

Updated Terms will apply to future transactions from the effective date shown.

Changing our website Terms does not allow us to retrospectively replace material terms already agreed with you for an existing transaction without an appropriate legal basis or your agreement.

42. Severability

If a particular provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, this does not automatically make the remaining provisions invalid.

The remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

43. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also benefit from mandatory legal protections that apply where you live.

Nothing in these Terms removes any right you have to bring proceedings in a court that has jurisdiction under applicable consumer law.
